Responsibilities

Role Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic, innovative thinker with a strong research background, who is passionate about delivering high-impact insights that drive commercial value. As a senior member of Avison Young’s Market Intelligence team, you will be responsible for the development and execution of a research, thought leadership and market insight programme focused on the UK Living sectors, including mainstream residential, affordable housing, Build to Rent (single and multi-family), PRS, Co-Living and Student, retirement, healthcare and hotels.

This role blends strategic research, data-driven analysis, and compelling storytelling to deliver market-leading insights that position Avison Young at the forefront of industry thinking. With a strong client and media focus, the role will elevate our market presence and generate income from direct client commissioned research, as well as supporting commercial activity and fee earning projects across the business.

  • Lead the development of Living sector research, thought leadership, trend analysis, and insight pieces across the UK Living sectors for internal

  • Produce high-quality, data-driven research and content exploring key demographic, market, policy and social trends impacting residential real estate

  • Grow the profile of Avison Young Living Sector research capability and generate income from client commissions

  • Build relationships and profile with relevant think tanks, professional, trade and academic institutions to generate research commissions/opportunities to collaborate  

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams in the Living Sector including Capital Markets, Land, Planning, Development, Regeneration and Consultancy to align insights with client needs and business objectives.

  • Leverage and evolve the use of proprietary data tools to support robust, client-focused analysis.

  • Deliver insights through multiple channels, including reports, events, media engagements, client pitches, and presentations.

  • Represent Avison Young at conferences, on industry panels, in press articles and across PR/media engagements to raise our profile and influence.

  • Oversee relevant data management practices and ensure data integrity across the Living sectors.

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Living Sector Senior Analyst
  • Act as a key spokesperson and internal ambassador for the Living sector strategy, fostering collaboration across teams and regions.

Qualifications

 

You are a commercially minded research professional thought leader with a passion for the Living sector and a strong understanding of what drives real estate markets. You combine strategic insight with analytical rigour, and are confident engaging with stakeholders across all levels.

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) required; Master’s preferred (Real Estate, Economics, Business, Finance, or related field).

  • 10+ years’ experience in residential real estate research or consulting, with deep sector knowledge across Build to Rent, Affordable Housing, Co-Living and Student Housing.

  • Demonstrable track record of producing influential thought leadership, research and market analysis that shapes industry debate and drives client engagement.

  • Confident presenter and communicator with experience speaking at industry events, panels, or in media settings.

  • Proven ability to work independently and lead insight programmes with minimal supervision.

  • Strong storytelling skills with the ability to extract actionable insights from data ("the so what").

  • Familiarity with UK residential policy, planning environment and market dynamics with a strong understanding of supply and demand drivers across mainstream residential supply and the living sub sectors (affordable/co-living/PBSA/single and multi-family/retirement/healthcare/hotels.

  • Collaborative mindset with excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients and internal teams.
